I've
known Willie Borsch since our fuel roadster days when he went on
tour back East in 1968. He came to town with the old "Marcellus
and Borsch" car, Leroy Chatterton and his first "Magnificent
7" Roadster, Don Green and the "Rat Trap" and the
Chevy powered "Pure Heaven" Roadster.
It
was that year that Walt took seriously ill and we put the AA/A285
back together so Walt could see the car run again. The old quick
change in the Fiat lasted two feet on alky. We immediately came
home and put my first fuel roadster together. It was a new Logghe
100 in WB car and we switched to nitro right away. Pa, {Walt} would
hire an ambulance and watch us run at Detroit every Sunday.

Well,
in August of 68 the touring roadsters (altereds) stopped at Milan
and matched race each other. My crew and I went to see those awful,
awful altereds. Borsch held the ET record at 8.06 at that time.
I introduced myself to the West Coast bunch and invited them to
work out of Walts Auto Parts. The next weekend they went East and
I went to Milan.
After
the Milan runs we went to the hospital and Pa asked how we did?
I told him 7.92, he was very pleased. Willie and Leroy came back
to my place and the other two went to Chicago. From then on when
Willie came East he made Dearborn his East Coast home.
In
1973, Willie brought back his "Revels" Chevy powered Charger
and finally wound up driving my Donovan powered Monza after a brief
stint in the old "Black Mustang" Funny until he took my
Monza back West in 1976 and run a very easy 6,14 at Orange County.
The next day all my Donovan stuff was stolen and we parted company.
I only talked to him a couple of times after that happened and was
saddened to hear of his passing. We had some good times together
being part of a select few in the "Altereds Brass Balls"
Club.
