The
only A990 Hemi convertible in existence. What is an A990? Well,
there are a few distinctive things that comprise an A990 engine
most
noticeably is magnesium cross ram intake with two Holley carburetors
mounted sideways. Aluminum cylinder heads with a straight rail
on the bottom of the valve cover instead of a notch as the street
hemi head has. Chrome valve covers that will only fit these heads.
Aluminum water pump and housing. The block casting number is 2468429
and the complete assembly is numbered 2780575 an aluminum oil
pump finishes the external differences. Inside the A990 are a
set of 12.5 to one pistons hung on special rods #2780531 and a
solid lifter camshaft. The so-called horsepower of this beast
was at least 525, actual figures I do not have. These engines
were only produced by the Chrysler Marine division and in very
limited quantities and powered the twin engine unlimited hydro
called Chrysler Crew. I believe Nascar and a limited number of
drag racers were the only ones to ever receive this engine. A
few A990 equipped 1965 Dodges and Plymouths known as A990 cars
were also built to compete in the super stock classes of NHRA.
Which are very desirable collector cars.
Warning:
Starting the engine for the Cuda is meant for high speed access
only.
Start engine at your own risk dial-up connections!
